lyrics

What a shame, how we've come together again
Only see you one year to the next...

Man, it sucks and it's so strange
Shock, horror, short exchanges
Was that the last I saw you?
Shit, it's been ages
We've all grown up now, getting old and some are gone
Those that fled the nest hurry back after the call
And it's as good excuse as any
Celebrate and don't forget 'em
Share a peace of their mind and live on in their memory
You never know what life will throw you
You only get one
So be humble, stay faithful and be forever grateful

It just goes to show, you've no idea what's going on
What people may be going through
What goes on inside their heads and their homes
Things start to take shape, and we reflect on first impressions
With a better understanding from a new angle and a different perspective
Behold, reality is unmasked
And I think we've all learned a thing or two from the events of this December passed
All tension is eased as tragedy mends the broken chain
Old habits and hard feelings are left to blame
We take friends, our family, and good health for granted
Always good to see you, I just wish it was in better circumstances
Don't believe in our God but together we pray
And if we don't believe in our God then who decides our fate?
And why can't we change our ways?

In the distance, how you fade (how you fade)
We carry on like we are strangers
Oh, how quickly things can change
Who knows if and when we'll meet again

What a shame how we've come together again
(How we've come together again)
Only see you one year to the next
(Send my regards but they're severely understated)

It's always second hand stories
It's not the same when you don't paint them
I'm always last to hear the news, too often long over-due
Then we run in out of the blue and it seems that we make a breakthrough
Surely full-proof this is tried and true
Reminiscing about when we used to share a cider in the field
Sang, laughed and dried each others tears
We shared our secrets and our fears
We traded all of our battle stories
In all our youth and all our glory
I'm thinking man, I hope we're still good friends in our thirties and forties

But bad shit happens and you've gotta try to find the positive
Old enemies become friends, old friends make empty promises
We can leave behind the fighting, reunite in our struggles
Before we grow further apart, confined out of spite in a bubble
Alleviate the cruel heartbreak and sorrow
Create, now visualise a new outlook with hope for tomorrow
All the stupid name calling, behind backs and not talking
Giving the silent treatment
In retrospect, it's not significant
All the silly little tiffs, they were childlike
Look and learn from the past, it's much clearer in hindsight
Understand there's things we can never change
Just recognise, address and apologise for our mistakes
Before we're stalemates

In the distance, how you fade
We carry on like we are strangers
Oh, how quickly things can change
Who knows if and when we'll meet again (x2)
